Will Surgery fix your Rotator Cuff tears?
Many people believe that rotator cuff tears can only be fixed with surgery. A shocking research paper finding say otherwise.
The research paper is called Management of irreparable massive rotator cuff tears: a systematic review and meta-analysis of patient-reported outcomes, reoperation rates, and treatment response.
After analysing 43 studies and 8 treatment plans for rotator cuff. They found that rotator cuff tears that had partial repair surgery had a 50 % retear rate. Latissimus Tendon transfer surgeries had a failure rate of 77%.
So, you must be asking yourself why the re-tear rate is so high after the surgeries.
The reason is quite simple the surgery does not address the root cause that allowed the tears to form in the first place. So, even after a perfect repair what caused the tears to for will cause them to from again and often on the other side.
