IS sitting the next thing that as bad as smoking??

With more and more people working all day from home, they are starting to realize how bad sitting the whole day is.

This week I have gotten dozens of calls from people so state the possible reason for their back pain is sitting much longer than they have when they are at the office.

Here is why

  1. The body does not like being stillThe body does not like being still. The body needs movement. When the body remains still for too long it causes so many problems.
For back pain, the simple one is staying still makes your muscles and body stiff. When the spine becomes stiff it does not move well. This poor movement leads to pain and problems.

  2. Sitting compresses the spine when you sit for hours at a time what happens is the back, intervertebral disc and muscles become compressed by the weight of your upper body. This weight pushes out the water in the discs causing them to be less able to support the weight from above. Over the course of time, this leads to many problems and often it starts with back pain.

  3. Poor posture while sitting
When we first start sitting, we undoubtedly sit perfectly. Head up, back straight and shoulders back. As time passes out bodies become tired and we slowly slouch forward until we are laying on the desk and supporting our head with our hands.
In the beginning, it’s easy to keep straight, but after the 5th hour, stationary in the chair. It’s not possible to keep a good posture. Even a yoga master will find it impossible.

What can you do about it?
Simple

  1. Get up every 45 minutes without exception. Your body was made to move. The more you move the healthier you are.
Set a timer if you must. Just get up and move around.

  2. Maintain good posture if you can.Sit up straight with your head up, back straight and shoulders back.
If you think you are right, try and straighten yourself up even more. If you cannot you perfect.

Keep trying to straighten yourself up as you realize you slouching.
When it’s exceedingly difficult to do, and your back pain is coming back, that is a sign that it’s time to get up, even if it has not been 45 minutes yet. Your body is tired of sitting.

If you find that you still have back pain that isn’t going away or keeps coming back even after getting up regularly and sitting with idea posture until you take a break that is a sign you should do something about it.
