The Most Common Cause of Back Pain Hidden in How You Walk
Are you are walking around with lower back pain that gets worse the more you stand, walk and run? Then you might have this underdiagnosed problem.
We found an interesting study titled; ‘Prevalence of gluteus medius weakness in people with chronic low back pain compared to healthy controls’
They found that 54% of the people who had lower back pain had Trendelenburg gait caused or worsened by problems in one of their deep Gluteal/Buttock muscles.
So, what is Trendelenburg? Trendelenburg is a walking abnormality where your pelvis is unable to stay level every time you stand, walk and run. Leading to a rocking motion in your pelvis.
When walking with Trendelenburg some people will compensate and start walking with a waddle, which basically looks like a penguin walking but only to one side.
The most common cause is when the muscles responsible for keeping the pelvis level are weak and unable to support your hips. The instability strains not just the gluteal muscles but other muscles in the pelvis, hips and back causing pain.
