The best advice I ever heard for Back pain
When trying to figure out what you should do first……
Hey!
For the next four weeks, I will be releasing weekly blog articles on the topic “best advice I ever heard for….’
Let us start with back pain.
If you have ever had bad back pain, I am sure you have wondered what is the first or most effective thing to try to help alleviate some of the pain you are experiencing.
Mothers everywhere may have suggested a hot water bottle or Myprodol.
Maybe even “Just look for something in the medicine cabinet to take”
Do not do that. Who knows what is in there or how long it has been there for? Do not do that.
The best and the first thing I tell anyone with back pain to do is move.
Move around. Get up from your bed or couch and move around.
It may sound counterintuitive at face value as most of still believe the first thing you should do if you have back pain is to find a comfortable position to lay in until you feel better.
This will make your pain worse and not better.
The first thing you should try is to move around. Get up from the bed or couch and walk around. Take a walk in the mall or around your garden. Go window shopping in the local Spar.
The remaining still will make you worse for two reasons
1. It will make you scared to move.
If every time you move you feel pain, the first thing you will do is stop moving. Now what has happened is that you are now living in fear that if you move the intense pain that you felt will come back.
The longer you remain still, the more fear you will have.
2. You will slow your recovery
Our bodies were made to move. Movement is the way we recover from injury and get back to living our lives. Remaining still and “resting” for prolonged periods will have the opposite effect that we want. It will not aid in your rapid return to normal.
So, you have tried my best advice and your pain is worse or not getting better.
Now is the time to start thinking of getting professional help.
We have helped hundreds of people with back pain get back to living their lives pain-free.
If you are moving around and still in pain, it’s time to get a professional.
