Splining for Carpal tunnel: Does it work?

January 18, 20221 min read

Hello

We have been helping people for a long time with carpal tunnel syndrome, so we hear all the time that the first thing people try after pills is splinting it at night. I always wondered does it work?

Today I am going to tell you about what a study found looking at exactly that.

This study searched for all the studies looking at this very thing, examined them all and broke it down for us to understand the current view of how effective splinting at night is.

The review included 19 studies randomising 1190 participants with carpal tunnel syndrome.

The studies that showed minor improvement were all bad studies whose design and the way they were carried out was poor, affecting how well we should trust the results.

The finding of the study was “There is limited evidence that a splint worn at night is more effective than no treatment in the short term. There is insufficient evidence regarding the effectiveness and safety of one splint design or wearing regimen over others, and of splint over other non‐surgical interventions for Carpal tunnel syndrome”.

Wow… what a finding. That splinting at night was no better than doing nothing!!!

To also find out that no splint design was better than another or better than non-surgical treatments.

Are you still using a splint, and is it doing very little for you?

Do you want to try something different?
