Shoulder decompression Surgery: Is it better than doing nothing?

January 20, 20221 min read

Hello!

My goodness, a shocking revelation. This study come out in 2017 that shoulder decompression surgery to address Rotator cuff impingement is no better than just a “Sham/Fake” surgery and believing it will help.

Let us look at what the article says

“The findings from our study suggest that surgery might not provide a clinically significant benefit over no treatment and that there is no benefit of decompression over placebo surgery.”

Wow. Just wow.

Let us continue “Over the past 3 decades, patients with this form of shoulder pain and clinicians (Doctors and the like) have accepted this surgery in the belief it provides reliable relief of symptoms”.

“But as far as we could tell it this procedure has never been tested in a placebo-controlled trial.”

This means they have never tested to see if this surgery was better than doing nothing or fake surgery.

“Our findings call into question the value of shoulder decompression surgery for this group of patients and should be communicated to patients and doctors considering this type of surgery.”

Do you still think surgery is a promising idea?

Do you want to try something different?
