Neck manipulation: Does it work for neck pain?

January 17, 20231 min read

Hello

I tell you the truth, I have never liked this technique. In my own experience, when I learnt how to do it, I viewed it as dangerous. When I used it to help people with their neck pain, it didn’t work. How patients usually would respond would be, that they feel better in the moment or for a short while after, by two weeks after, they were back to how they were before.

I personally do not use it because it doesn’t fix any issues.

But my own personal views aside, let us look at the evidence on this technique. And see what others think.

I will besumming up many studiesfor you and giving you the main points.

Firstly

If less than ½ of chiropractors, who only use manipulation, choose not to use it… what does that tell you about its effectiveness?

Secondly

They do not use it because they are worried it will make things worse!

Why would you then let someone use this on you?

Thirdly

“There has been scant investigative research into the treatment of acute neck pain with chiropractic manipulation.”

If people have been doing this for years and there still very little evidence out there that this works? Why would you let them do this when they do not even know if it works or not?

Or would you rather try something that has a long track record of working?
