Migraines and their impact on work
Hello
So many of the people that come to us for their headaches tell us what a huge impact it has on their jobs. I can recall one person, in particular, that was doing so badly at work because of it, he was put on review.
I wanted to see how bad this problem was so I found a study that looked at just that.
Let us look at the results
The study gave questionnaires to about 200 000 people suffering from headaches and ask them how many working days they lost because of it.
Lost working days or lost productive time was any time where the person could not work effectively because of their headaches.
They found that “The mean LPT per week was 1.8 hours for headache and 2.8 for all health-related causes.”
“76.5% of the headache-related LPT was explained by reduced performance”.
“The 29% of migraine cases with 11+ headaches-days per month accounted for 49% of overall LPT.”
“19% of those with a pain score of 9 to 10 on a 0 to 10 scale accounted for 33% of the overall LPT.”
This told the researchers that “Individuals with frequent and severe headaches account for a disproportionate share of the headache-related LPT.”
I realised it was playing a role but I didn’t realise it was this bad. From the look at, those with the most severe headaches are the people that have to take the most time off because of their headaches.
It sounds like they were forced to because their headaches were so bad they weren’t able to work at all.
Does this sound like what is happening to you?
Are you ready to do something to address it permanently?
