Knee Surgery: Will it get you back to playing sports

January 20, 20221 min read

Hello

We have never been a fan of surgery for pain or degeneration as always, they end up worse than they were before the surgery. As the years go by, the damage caused by the surgery leads to more problems.

Knowing this, I wanted to check if I was right.

This week we are going to talk about how many people return to playing sport after a meniscectomy surgery.

The study looked at 147 athletes and followed them for almost 15 years.

Let us look at the results.

“The frequency of complaints related to the operation increased from 53% at 4.5 years to 67% at 14.5 years, while demonstrable knee instability increased from 10% to 36%.”

So not only did they complain more about the knee but also the knee got more unstable. This often feels like the knee just gives way.

“The incidence of radiographic changes of degeneration rose from 40% to 89% and at late review, 8% of patients had definite osteoarthritis.”

From the looks of it, this type of knee surgery leads to degeneration and breaking down of the knee joint and even arthritis.

“In consequence, 46% had given up or reduced their sporting activity.”

With so many having to give up the sport because of this surgery, this surgery does not sound like a promising idea if you want to keep doing what you are doing.

Do want to try something else instead?
