Is Your Spine To Blame for Your Back Pain?
A common belief about pain is that if something looks bad on a scan, it must be the cause of your pain. Many people believe that once an X-ray or MRI shows wear and tear, disc bulges, or spinal changes, that they have found the answer to their pain.
However, the research tells a very different story.
A study titled ‘Degenerative Magnetic Resonance Imaging Changes in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain’ found no clear link between the amount of wear and tear seen in the spine and the level of pain people experience.
Because of this, the researchers strongly advise against making treatment decisions based solely on scan results.
In our experience, we have seen how debilitating pain is driven by problems in the muscles that support and move the body.
