Fibromyalgia and working: How long will you be able to work?

January 20, 20221 min read

Hello

One of the main concerns of people with fibromyalgia that come to us have is, losing their ability to work and do things for themselves.

This is a terrifying experience for our patients. They are terrified that as their pain gets worse, they will not be able to do anything for themselves, let alone work.

What I wanted to do is look at what the science on this says so that you can understand better what is going on.

Here is what they say.

Of the almost 290 people suffering from fibromyalgia that were studied, “52.8% were diagnosed less than 5 years previously.”

“Of the participants, 54.2% were working full time and 21.5% working part-time at symptom onset; however, only 15.6% were currently working full time, with 44.8% not currently working at all.”

“24.3% stopped working and 32.6% reduced paid work directly within 5 years of symptom development.”

“35.1% currently received financial support because they were unable to work.”

” While only 24.3% reported Fibromyalgia medication increased their ability to work.”

This was a shocking revelation when I read it. Fibromyalgia has an enormous impact on their lives. Worse still, this evidence suggests the medication does not help them get back to work.

Are you sick of taking pills that seem too slow does how terrible things get?

Or do you want to try something different?
