Do You Have Jaw Pain? The Culprit Behind Your Aching Face
One of the conditions we treat at the Pain Centre, which causes pain and difficulty with eating and speaking, is temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ).
We found a study titled, “The most common causes of eye pain at two tertiary ophthalmology and neurology clinics.”
The researchers found that more than 50% of Jaw/TMJ pain cases seen in neurology clinics were caused by muscular disorders.
The TMJ is your jaw joint, located close to and in front of your ear. When there is dysfunction, the movement of the jaw is severely affected. TMJ dysfunction can lead to pain, clicking, and grinding of the jaw.
When the muscles controlling the joint develop special type of muscle spasms called myofascial trigger points, this can lead to dysfunction and pain in the head and face.
