BREAKING NEWS: KNEE arthroscopy
Hello!
Today I just found a study that revealed something that I just have to tell you about.
For many of those with knee pain that just seems to never go away, they always tend to end up in the surgeon’s office and they recommend an arthroscopy to “Clean up all the rough edges” that could be causing the person their pain.
Today I can tell you that “ There were no valid indications in the medical record for 1/3 of knee arthroscopies performed in patients older than 50 years”.
Did you hear that?? 1/3 of all knee arthroscopies in people over 50 had no valid reasons to be done!!
Another finding was that “ 1/3 of the performed arthroscopies among patients aged 50 and over with degenerative knee disease is potentially low-value care”.
Meaning doing the knee arthroscopy could have little if any value for the patient who is 50 and older???
