BACK PAIN & GETTING HELP:5 Reasons why you shouldn’t wait until you are desperate
We all know someone who did something rash they should not have done in a time of desperation.
Be it sold a family treasure. Got out of the stock market when things looked bad just to have it bounce back in a few months or just made a bad decision.
Here are the reasons why you should not wait until you are desperate to get help for your back pain.
1. You will make a bad decision
When we are desperate, we are not thinking clearly. All we want is for the back pain to stop. To feel better. In that state of mind there is no ways you can think clearly and take the time to make the right decision. You are physically unable. You are in too much pain. When you are in so much back pain you can hardly stand or sit. You cannot hope to be able to think clearly.
So why wait until you are in that position?
2. You will do anything
If we look on social media these days, we will see ads for smokes for R70 a box. It might reach R70 a smoke. If you are desperate for a smoke, you will pay that. When you have back pain, it is no different. You will do anything absolutely anything. If someone tells you that hoping on one leg while you rub your head and stomach at the same time you will help with your back pain, you will do it. You will not even think twice. You are desperate. You are not thinking clearly and will do absolutely anything to anyone who looks convincing that this will end you back pain. You are in a position where it is easy to be taken advantage of. Back surgery is another example. If you are desperate for help for back pain and a surgeon says that if we operate, take this out, put that in everything will be better. You would do it. Even if a month ago you would never even think of doing that, EVER!
If you are in that position where you will do anything anyone tells you, how can you possibly not make a bad decision or……..
3. You will do something you regret
There are times that back surgery is the only way to fix the problem. THE ONLY WAY.If you have a problem like deformity or been severely injured in such a way your spine is fractured. Absolutely, the surgeon must get in there and repair the damage.
There are more times when they should not go in. You have heard from a friend or a friend’s friend who was never quite right after surgery. That they are now in more back pain than they were before. They can do less and less. They are becoming more disabled. Before they would have a few bad days. Now every day is a bad day.
And they regret doing it. They often say that it made everything worse. “I wish I tried more alternatives”.
The decision you regret could not be back surgery. It could be something else. You really do not want to be in a position where you are in too much back pain to make a good decision. Because some bad decisions you laugh about…… Others you only wish you could go back and not make.
Do not wait until it reaches this point.
4. You are not in a position to say NO!
Think in your own life, there have been many situations where you wished you could have said no. Told an asshole of a boss to shove it……A mechanic who is trying to screw you……A job you hated……
Sure. There are many times our lives would have been so much better off if we said no.
IF your car is broken down and only this mechanic showed up and he knows it, you are not able to not tolerate bullshit or negotiate.
If you are desperate and someone offers you a solution that you would have never taken if you were not in so much back pain. You would have said no and walked out.But when you have held off getting help until your back pain is so bad that you will do literally anything, is that good place to be in? Is that how you avoid making the wrong decision?
Absolutely not.
5. You are trying to fix a long-term problem with a short-term relief
Undoubtedly you need relief. You cannot live your life like this. You cannot allow yourself to reach a point where the pain is one of your middle names.
But at this point, you are desperate for relief. You will do anything to get relief from your back pain. The worst thing that could possibly happen to you is that you get it. Because if you get it then do not commit to fixing your back pain. The urgency and drive you once had to get help are gone.
Because you feel better. So, another couple of months go by after your one session of treatment. Your back pain gets progressively worse and you land up in the same position that you were before. Desperate looking for relief.
And so, the cycle continues. You get the relief from your back pain, do not commit to going back to actually getting it fixed and doing what you need to prevent it from coming back, then over time things get worse and worse.
It is almost as if you have forgotten that the original incident never happened.
Do not become this person trapped in the cycle of back pain. Commit. Do the work and get yourself out of this shitty situation.
That is it. The five reasons why you should not wait until you are desperate to get help for you back pain.
