Back pain and work: What the research says

January 20, 20221 min read

Hello

We see so many people with back pain that we are becoming known as the only place to go for back pain. AS we see so many of it, we know how difficult it makes sitting, walking, and standing lengthy periods.

So, we wanted to look at how that is affecting peoples work.

Let us look at what a study we found revealed

They looked at 320 workers 40 to 65 years of age with Back Pain (BP).

They found that “The 2-week period prevalence of BP was 15.1%; 42% of workers with BP experienced pain exacerbations.”

“BP was reported by 42.6% of all workers.”

So almost half of all people working have back pain??? How many people that you work with have it?

“Workers with exacerbations were significantly more likely than those without such exacerbations to report activity limitation (88.4% vs. 60.7%; P < 0.0001) and BP-related lost productive time.”

It sounds like those who have back pain that has periods of flare-up, it is getting worse, are more likely to be able to do less and be forced to take off time because of it.

Workers with BP exacerbations account for 71.6% of all the costs incurred by the employer in form of time off work, not working effectively at work due to pain and medical care the employer pays for.

As you can see this problem is extremely common and is making it difficult for many people to work and work effectively while at work.

I am sure some of those people had to be let go because they could not perform. The pain is so bad.

How big of an impact is your back pain having on your life and work?
