A common misconception about back pain is that muscle relaxants are the obvious fix. Many people assume that muscle relaxants treat muscle spasms, they don’t.

In a study titled Efficacy, acceptability, and safety of muscle relaxants for adults with non-specific low back pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis’.

The researchers found no conclusive evidence that muscle relaxants help patients experiencing muscular pain.

Furthermore, even when pain did improve, these medications cannot be used for extended periods due to their side effects. Therefore, muscle relaxants are not a long-term solution for pain.

Muscle relaxants do not change the structure of the muscle, meaning there is no lasting relief. Once the medication wears off, the pain often returns.

The good news is that there are solutions that address muscle spasms directly for longer-lasting relief.
