Acupuncture for knee pain: Does it work?

January 17, 20231 min read

Hello

By the time many of our clients come to see they have tried all kinds of treatments to help with their pain.

This week we are going to look at theeffectiveness of one of those treatmentoptions, Acupuncture.

Acupuncture is when they use verythin needlesand put them into our body to get pain relief.

This week’s article looks at how effective that is for knee pain.

The name of the article is “Acupuncture for Chronic Knee PainA Randomized Clinical Trial”.

In the article they had 3 groups of 70. One received laser, or fake or shame treatment and another the acupuncture for 12 weeks and looked at the results.

They found that “Analyses showed neither needle nor laser acupuncture significantly improved pain or function compared with sham at 12 weeks.”

This tells me that at 12 weeks, it was not better than doing nothing or fake treatment. A treatment that they know will not work.

They concluded that “In patients older than 50 years with moderate or severe chronic knee pain, neither laser nor needle acupuncture conferred benefit over sham for pain or function. Our findings do not support acupuncture for these patients.”

This is conclusive proof that this doesn’t work.

Would you like to try something that does?
