3 reasons why Painkillers are so dangerous
Hello
This week I am going to tell you about the 3 lesser-known reasons that make pain killers so dangerous. Just to let you know, I am not against people using them.
It makes perfect sense to use them right after an injury or surgery to feel more comfortable while your body heals from the injuries you sustained. The problem we see all the time is when people take them for a long time.
They give instant relief
Why would this be a problem? It is when you have had your problem for a long time. It just keeps getting worse and the first thing you do is reach for a pill instead of getting help.
You train yourself to want quick relief, while the problem just gets worse.
Like a leaking roof. It is much easier to put a bucket under the leak rather than climb up in the roof and see what’s going on.
It is also cheaper than hiring someone….
They all have side effects that get worse the longer you take them
Again, taking painkillers for a few weeks after surgery or a bad injury is exactly what you should do.
The problems start to show up after taking the same pills for months or even years longer than you should have. Like opioid pain killers cause bad constipation and neurological problems.
They also are addictive…. The longer you use them the more likely you are to become dependent on them.
Lastly, some can even cause your pain to get much worse.
Yup.
They can make your pain worse. The more you take the worse your pain gets
They don’t fix anything
Ok, so the scenario is like this, you have had pain for a long time, it keeps coming than going. Every time it comes it is worse than before and takes longer to go.
Your first move is painkillers. Thinking that will fix the problem. That’s not what painkillers do.
They block pain signals from reaching the brain so that you feel them. They don’t do anything to fix the cause of your pain.
So here you are, taking more and more of them hoping something might help “fix” the problem. All you are doing is blocking the signals.
If you have food that is going off in the fridge, is the right thing to do to put that rotting food in a plastic bag, tie it, and put it back in the fridge so that it smells less bad?
No.
So why do you keep taking painkillers instead of fixing the problem?
Do you want to try something different instead?
